Thing 3

RSS feeds--I had minimal experience with RSS feeds prior to doing Thing 3. I have a news feed on my outlook. While doing Thing 3, I added the RSS feeds for Free Government Information and NPR Book Reviews. These are both interesting feeds and that may lead to a problem of becoming engrossed in reading these feeds and not getting work done. I will have to skim. I do enjoy the instant information without spending a lot of time online. It's free delivery service.

Thing 2

Web 2.0 articles...I liked the analogy of the icebergs, because if we don't forge ahead with technology we are like the Titantic merrily rolling along until bang! we are sinking. It's a waste of space to keep things in case they are needed if they are accessible online. Patrons want to find resources online.
RSS feeds allows delivery to patrons' work places. Data can be customized. As librarians, we worry about the authority and content. Librarians need to trust users and staff to prepare for blogs, wikis, Flicker, IM and Facebook. These are all technologies younger patrons use and expect the rest of the world to use to communicate. We need to be a part of this global collaboration or we will sink.
Hopefully I will be on to three soon and not take so long in doing Things.

Thing 1

Hi,
I found creating the blog and setting up more time consuming that I planned. Creating the Avatar was fun. It looks nothing like me. There were no short, fat, gray models. I don't think we would ever use Avatar's for any blogs at work. If patrons reviewed these, they would come up to the Reference Desk looking for someone else.
I do love Hawaii and wish I was there now...
